Seven makers. One theme. No one knows who will enter the stage.

Music, poetry, dance and storytelling come together in a holy space in the heart of Amsterdam. The format is simple and surprising. Seven time slots. Seven contributions. Some makers are familiar faces in the Spirit community – bringing new, unseen work. Others are new voices, discovered through an open call. Nobody knows who’s coming on stage. Not the host, not the guests, not you.

This 3rd edition theme: FEAR.

A feeling. Seven makers bring their own interpretation. You won’t know what’s coming until it happens.

How it works

The evening is hosted by Robert-Jan Glas, founder of The Spirit of Amsterdam. Two panel guests join him – a spiritual leader and a creative voice (names T.B.A.) – who briefly go in with each maker after their act. Between every performance, live music by a band which makes the room intact. Intimate, curious, unhurried.

Want to take the leap yourself?

The Open Spirit is also an alternative to the open call. Instead of writing a big project plan or concept with budgets, this is a simpler and much purer way to see if we are a match for the future. Limited spots are available for makers who want to test new work, step on stage for the first time, or share something they’ve never shared before.

We use this night to discover talent. Makers who land well get on our radar – for a paid spot at a future Open Spirit, a booking at the Spirit festival, or another collaboration. No promises. But have some faith.
